David Platt is a prophetic voice to the church today and needs to be heard. I have added a link to his important series on the book of James to the left hand side of my blog. Many of us in the western world are far too materialistic. I feel like God is speaking through men like John Piper, David Platt and others to address this issue. Money is not evil and hard work is good but our earning and giving needs to have a purpose beyond ourselves. It's important we run away from a man - centered gospel to a God - centered gospel. - Bobby

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. - Matthew 6:23
Recession, crime, the loss of your retirement....these are all bad things....if you're not a Christian. But if you are in covenant with the God who created the universe, you have his promises that he will never leave you or forsake you. It comes down to one thing: Do you really trust God or not? I've seen God part the Red Sea in my life more than once, and if you have a history with God, so have you. I'm facing some decisions about my future at this present time. At first I felt a little anxiety, then I remembered how God has guided me in the past. It's like He's saying," I've parted the Red Sea for you in the past and I can do it again. When it's time for you to make a decision, I will guide you." - Bobby

"Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us."
Justification is by faith alone, just as Martin Luther the great Reformer rediscovered. But the Bible is clear; Faith without works is dead (James 2:17.) The person who has been justified by faith in Jesus will have a life charcterized by good works. Those who seek to perform good works to earn salvation or God's acceptance are only producing what the Bible calls dead works. (Hebrews 9:14.) It's critically important to understand that righteousness or right standing with God has been imputed to our account by God as a free gift. Righteousness is a foreign substance to us just as sin is foriegn to Jesus. It must be given to us as a gift.
Jesus took our sin and gave us his righteousness, (The great exchange.) In other words, the Judge declared us guilty and Jesus stepped in and took the punishment for a crime he didn't commit. I deserved to die but Jesus took my place. Since the debt has been taken care of, by Jesus I now have peace with God.
For the rest of my life I will stand in God's grace without fear of losing something I did not earn! As Christians we will suffer, but God will empower us to endure and as a result build character in our lives. How can we do all this? God pours his love into our heart by the Holy Spirit in other words, it's by his supernatural power.

"For by grace you have been saved a through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." - Ephesians 2:8-9 (ESV)
"For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works" Romans 4:2 - 6 (ESV)
Salvation is a free gift that is given to ungodly people who don't deserve it and cannot attain it through living a good life , keeping the Ten Commandments, going to Church, attending Mass, or receiving the Eucharist (the Lords supper.) In fact you cannot put God in debt to you. If you could do something to earn your salvation, God would owe you ... and that will never happen. Believe that Jesus is God, and has paid the price for you to go to Heaven, trust his death, burial, and resurrection ... make Jesus your supreme treasure ... bow down to him as Lord and Savior ... just believe and trust him and you will be saved. - Bobby
