Proclamation and Transformation

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel, which has come to you, as indeed in the whole world it is bearing fruit and increasing—as it also does among you, since the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth  (Colossians 1:3-6 ESV)

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. (Romans 1:16 ESV)

The Gospel impacts every area of our lives. Its' influence is felt not only in our church life but in our family, work, and our private lives also. The Gospel message of the life and work of Jesus - is the power of God. This message is the grace of God in truth. The Kerygma(a Greek word for gospel which is similar to a herald announcing  an event - an by announcing it bringing it into being) is making a come-back in the western Church. Some pastors and teachers and movements are making the Gospel their primary message again, and teaching  how it effects the way we live our lives.

As this message of truth is emphasized and embraced in the church, you will see a gradual transformation in the life of the believer and hope for our culture. Hearing and understanding the message of grace and truth will set "Bible belt Christians" free from a condescending, self-righteous attitude towards those that don't embrace the truth. If you and I understand the implications of the virgin birth, sinless life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we will know that change comes only by grace - by God's undeserved favor and power.

Some who herald the truth use it as a weapon. God doesn't need us to condemn anybody nor does he need a particular political party to get his work on earth accomplished. A person's lifestyle will not be changed without an encounter with the living God. Speaking the truth in love will often be seen as judgmental, but we can't control how people react. Our job is to proclaim the truth - it's the Holy Spirit who changes people. - Bobby
